Boat
(assistant director)

Created by Ned Glasier and Company Three

Boat was a production that stemmed from the European refugee crisis. It’s a piece about empathy -teenagers attempting to understand what it's like to leave your home and go somewhere new. The audience tapped into awkward conversations between young people. This allowed the audience to empathise and make connections where people wouldn’t deem possible.

As an assistant director on Boat, the best way for me to be useful was to take notes. Boat had Company Three’s members stories at the heart, so it was only right that I focused on noting down any glimmers of promise. Being involved in the scratch of Boat (as a performer) allowed me to understand the content and gesture of Boat.

On this production, we were lucky enough to work with Yami Löfvenberg, an amazing movement director, from the very early stages of rehearsals. As an aspiring maker, I was able to see firsthand in the benefits of collaborating early with your team.
